Lesser-Known High-Paying Roles in Venture Capital
I know everyone wants to break into investment roles like analyst, associate, director, principal or partner who takes a startup investment decision in a VC Firm.
Back in 2019, I also wanted to be a part of investment role and fortunately I crack into the roles. Honestly, everyone knows that - there are multiple reasons for this particular role. One of the most common reason that VC Enthusiast get influence for these particular roles is highest salary and if you are lucky enough then successful investment carry fees too.
But did you know there are some other kickass jobs in VC that are lesser-known and highest payable? That's right! These roles may not involve investing directly, but they're just as important to keeping the whole operation running smoothly. Not to mention, they can pay pretty darn well too!
So If you are not aware of these roles let’s deep dive into this writeup to get the idea about these roles.
Community Managers:
Community managers in Venture Capital are responsible for building and nurturing a network of founders, investors, and industry experts. They facilitate connections between founders and provide resources to help them build their companies.
This can include organizing events, creating content, and providing mentorship. This jobs are one of the highest paying jobs in the VC Industry.
Some big VC firms always look for someone who has people skills - even Bessemer venture partner looking for some community manager.
Investor Relations:
As the name suggests, investor relations professionals in VC are responsible for communicating with investors in the fund. They help attract new investors (Limited Partners) to the fund, and they keep current investors up to date on the fund's performance.
This involves reporting on financial performance, providing updates on investments, and answering investor questions. Honestly, this role’s demand is increasing day by day. Every single firm look for someone who has financial education background and people skills.
Even if you search on google for this role, you will find lots of jobs. No doubt - one of the highest paid job in Non-investment roles.
Talent + Hiring:
Venture Capitalists often work closely with the startups they invest in, and one critical need for these companies is finding the right talent.
VC firms often have talent specialists who work with portfolio companies to find the right people for key roles. This can include recruiting, interviewing, and making hiring recommendations.
If you have some HR experience and good network with the right talent, every VC firms will look to hire you. Again, no doubt - one of the highest paid job in VC Industry.
Public Relations + Communications:
The public relations and communications team in a VC firm is responsible for managing the firm's image and creating a positive perception of the portfolio companies.
This can include crafting press releases, managing media relations, creating engaging content, and developing social media strategies.
You know, this is one of the most important role for any VC to build their brand. VC industry is totally worked on trust and perception basis - if some VC firm don’t have this, no founder or LPs choose to go there. So if you have the right background which can help the VC firm to build their brand,
Operations:
The operations team in VC firms is responsible for ensuring that the fund runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis.
This can include financial management, investor relations, compliance, and administrative tasks. They also help manage the firm's relationships with external service providers, such as law firms and accounting firms.
Finance Manager / CFO:
The finance manager or CFO in a VC firm is responsible for managing the fund's financial operations.
They oversee financial reporting, ensure tax compliance, and manage the fund's cash flow. They work closely with portfolio companies to manage their finances and ensure that the firm is investing wisely. You know - this is one of the highest paying role in VC industry. You will find some jobs in the next section on this role.
Legal Manager / General Counsel:
Legal managers or general counsels in VC firms are responsible for overseeing the legal and compliance aspects of the fund.
They ensure that the fund complies with relevant regulations, provide legal advice on investments and exits, and manage the fund's relationships with external legal service providers. They also provide guidance to portfolio companies on legal issues.
If you are from legal background like law this is the perfect role for you.
Remember, venture capital is not just about investing. There are many other important roles that make a VC firm successful, and these lesser-known high-paying roles are worth exploring. So, keep an open mind and consider these opportunities to enter the world of venture capital.
